Pigs and Pints Fundraising Event!

Oink for a Cause: Pig Racing Fundraiser to Reopen The Loddiswell Inn as a Community Pub!

What happens when you combine the charm of a village pub with the whimsy of pig racing? You get an unforgettable fundraising event that not only brings the community together but also raises crucial funds for a fantastic cause. Our recent ‘Pints & Pig Racing’ Fundraiser was a roaring success, and we’re excited to share the highlights of this delightful event, which brought us one step closer to reopening The Loddiswell Inn as a community pub.

The Need for Action

The closure of The Loddiswell Inn was a significant blow to our village. More than just a place to grab a drink, it was a social hub where people of all ages and backgrounds came together. Recognising the importance of this space, the Loddiswell Community Pub Group sprang into action. We knew we needed to raise funds and rally support to bring our pub back to life.

The Idea: Wind-Up Pig Racing

In our search for a unique and engaging fundraising idea, we stumbled upon the concept of pig racing, having witnessed the event put on by Byng’s Game Show Road Show at a number of other pubs in South Devon. The notion of tiny, mechanical pigs racing across a track might sound unusual, but it perfectly captured the spirit of fun and community we wanted to promote. Plus, it promised to be an event unlike any other, sure to draw a crowd and generate buzz (or perhaps we mean ‘oink!’).

Bringing the Event to Life

Planning the Wind-Up Pig Racing Fundraiser was a community effort in every sense. Volunteers came forward to help organize the event, local businesses donated prizes and supplies, and word spread quickly through social media and old-fashioned word of mouth. We transformed the village hall into a whimsical racetrack, complete with cheering sections, a betting station, and plenty of refreshments.

Let the Races Begin!

The races kicked off with much fanfare. Each wind-up pig was wound up, placed on the track, and released to the cheers and laughter of the crowd. Children and adults alike watched in delight as the pigs raced each other, creating a spectacle that was as unpredictable as it was entertaining.

Participants placed small bets on their favourite pigs, adding an extra layer of excitement to the proceedings, and even an auction was held so that participants could take their piggy home with them.

The Wind-Up Pig Racing Fundraiser exceeded our expectations in every way. Not only did we raise a significant amount of money towards reopening The Loddiswell Inn, but we also strengthened our sense of community. The event was a reminder of what we can achieve when we come together for a common cause. Every race, every cheer and every donation brought us one step closer to our goal.

A Step Closer to Our Dream

Reopening The Loddiswell Inn is more than just bringing back a pub; it’s about restoring a vital part of our village’s heritage and creating a welcoming space where everyone can gather. The success of our Wind-Up Pig Racing Fundraiser is a crucial step towards making this dream a reality.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated, volunteered, and supported this event. Your enthusiasm and generosity have made a real difference.

Looking Ahead

With this successful fundraiser behind us, we are more energized than ever to continue our efforts. There are more exciting events and initiatives in the pipeline, all aimed at raising the necessary funds and rallying community support to reopen The Loddiswell Inn.

Stay tuned for updates, and if you missed out on the pig racing fun, don’t worry – there will be plenty of opportunities to get involved and support our cause in the coming months.
